Position Overview
Responsibilities:
- Performs functions necessary for the completion of the daily Operating Room slate.
- Maintains sound relations with Physicians and associated staff in activities related to the preparation of the Operating Room Slate.
- Scrutinizes all pre‑operative patient records for scheduled surgical bookings for accuracy and completion.
- Assigns times for surgical procedures in accordance with established guidelines.
- Prepares the following on a daily basis:
- a) O.R. Worksheet.
- b) O.R. Slate.
- c) Patient Lists.
- d) Preference/Case Cart Cards.
- e) Statistics.
- Generates and distributes Operating Room slate daily to assigned departments.
- Maintains records and reports as required.
- Maintains confidentiality and professional conduct in all matters pertaining to hospital, patients, families, staff members and suppliers.
- Relieves, replaces or assists other staff as required.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by the Program Manager.
- Adheres to all safety and health regulations and demonstrates safe work practices.
- Meets own learning needs related to the position through inservices, staff meetings, and independent study.
Experience
- Previous Slating Clerk experience required.
- Experience with E-Booking and PART preferred.

Experience with SIMS slating preferred.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
- Completion of Grade 12 required.
- Medical terminology course required (must score at least 75% on tests requiring interpretation of medical terms and abbreviations).
- Health Unit Clerk course preferred.

Qualifications and Skills
- Demonstrated competence in the use of various communication technologies including telephone, and voice-mail systems required.
- Demonstrated competence using a variety of software applications including Word, Access, and Outlook required (must score at least 75% on tests requiring application of these specific programs).
- High level of proficiency in Excel for statistics required (must score at least 75% on a hospital administered test).
- Typing speed of a minimum of 60 wpm required.
- Ability to effectively maintain records and reports related to the position.
- Ability to effectively:
- a) Relate on an interpersonal basis with others.
- b) Work under stressful conditions, and;
- c) Retain data on a confidential basis required.
- Demonstrated ability to read, converse, and write proficiently in the English language required.
- Ability to complete the position on a regular basis.

This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.
