Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient- centered clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations.
Position Overview
Under the general direction of the Manager of OR Processes, the incumbent is responsible for the provision and supervision of quality reprocessing of Operating Room instrumentation and picking of case carts on their shift. Develops practices to monitor and control instrument numbers, use, reprocessing, maintenance and repair. Acts as a liaison between the instrument processing technicians and Operating Room nurses. Ensures that established policies and procedures are adhered to and maintains accurate records on key performance indicators relative to the measurement of service provided, utilization, productivity and quality control.
The incumbent is responsible for managing information in the instrument tracking system including changes to surgical sets and entering new sets as well as acting as a supervisor.
Experience
- Two to three years current experience reprocessing instruments from all surgical specialties.
- Previous supervisory experienced required.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
- Operating Room Technician or an equivalent combination of education and experience as recognized by the centre.
- Formal training in management/supervision preferred.
Qualifications and Skills
- Preference will be given to those applicants competent in an Indigenous language and/or knowledge in Indigenous customs, traditions and values.
- Must possess strong communication skills and demonstrated ability to work effectively with all levels of staff.
- Knowledge of medical device reprocessing and infection control issues.
- Must have a thorough understanding of an instrument tracking system.
- Experience and knowledge of the business processes related to MDR (Medical Device Reprocessing) and case cart provision including medical/surgical supplies.
- Experience in adult education.
- Must possess excellent leadership, organization, interpersonal and problem solving skills.
- Must demonstrate flexibility in adapting to changes in workflow.
- Must have or be able to acquire within a reasonable period of time a thorough knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions and regulations applicable to the area of supervision.
- Must be capable of working under pressure and performing a wide range of duties that may require independent action.
- Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills.
