Position Overview
Contribute to patient care and well being by maintaining a clean, sanitary and attractive environment in all areas. Carries out assigned duties in accordance with designated department policies and procedures under the direction of the Supervisor. Assumes responsibility for supervision and day to day operations of the Housekeeping staff.
Experience
- One (1) year of supervisory experience with proven leadership skills is required.
- Four (4) years recent experience in the Housekeeping field is required.
- An equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered.
- Must have advanced computer/ skills and experience, such as data entry, email management, spreadsheet inputting and management, scheduling and timekeeping, report writing, etc. using Microsoft Office (Excel, Word and Outlook), scheduling and timekeeping systems and systems related to environmental services management.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
- Grade 12 education.
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training requirements for this position shall be in accordance with the Employer policy.
- Courses in Healthcare Leadership and/or Canadian Healthcare Housekeeping Associations’ EVS Leadership Course and EVS Methodologies is preferred and recommended.

Qualifications and Skills
- Must have a thorough and extensive knowledge of all approved and current housekeeping procedures, housekeeping equipment, and floor maintenance techniques.
- Must have thorough and extensive knowledge of approved methods and procedures as established by the Housekeeping Department.
- Knowledge of the English language consistent with the demands of the position is required. Must be highly proficient in speaking, reading, writing and understanding the English language.
- Works within MHC’s core values, philosophy, vision, CQI goals, policies and procedures.
- Must have superior leadership qualities, organization skills and possess strong interpersonal skills.
- Must be able to function as an effective member of an interdisciplinary team, including collaboration, team work and excellent communication skills.
- Must be able to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Must be able to work cooperatively with patients, residents, visitors and Health Centre staff and possess tact and courtesy in dealing with all individuals.
- Must be able to work well under minimal supervision, showing organization, adaptability and judgement.

This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.
