Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient-centered clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations.
Position Overview
Under the general supervision of the Manager or Therapist, the incumbent is responsible for providing support to the licensed Respiratory Therapist consistent with discipline standards and the practice setting.
Duties include:
- Assisting the Respiratory Therapist in troubleshooting respiratory therapy equipment to minimize downtime.
- Following up on reports related to equipment/products and liaising with Manager, Clinical Equipment Specialists, Clinical Service Leaders, and Clinical Specialists.
- Coordinating the repair, maintenance and documentation of respiratory equipment with Clinical Engineering.
- Acting as a liaison between Respiratory Therapy Department leaders and Clinical Engineering with respect to the malfunctioning critical care equipment.
- Setting up Respiratory Equipment on new wards.
- Maintaining records and inventory list relating to all respiratory equipment.
- Ordering Stock and non-stock supplies/equipment.
Experience
- Previous related experience working with Respiratory Therapy equipment and/or in the field of Respiratory Therapy preferred.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
- Complete high school education, Manitoba Standards, required.
- Successful completion of year three of an accredited Respiratory Therapy Educational Program or registry eligible with the Canadian Board of Respiratory Care required.
- University level science courses preferred.
- A combination of education and experience may be considered.
Qualifications and Skills
- Preference will be given to those applicants competent in an Indigenous language and/or knowledge in Indigenous customs, traditions and values.
- On-the-job training (up to 6 months) is provided by the Centre.
- Basic computer and keyboarding skills required.
- Medical terminology preferred.
- Ability to respond to a variety of simultaneous demands.
- Excellent English comprehension and written and verbal communication skills.
- Must have good interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Ability to perform as a team member and seek assistance as necessary.
- Ability to function effectively in a stressful environment.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift heavy medical equipment up to 45 kg.
- Ability to push wheeled medical equipment.
- Ability to assist with the positioning of patients.
- May be required to occasionally work extended hours.
- May be exposed to infectious diseases, blood and body fluids, radiation, toxic materials, noise and allergens.
