Position Overview

Under the immediate supervision of the Hospital Services Program Manager; the incumbent is responsible for:

  1. Supporting, participating in and interpreting the philosophy, objectives and policies for the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority (WRHA).
  2. Supporting and participating in regional utilization initiatives.
  3. In collaboration with other health professionals, coordinating discharge planning for Indigenous patients throughout the WRHA in a professional manner.
  4. Demonstrating effective communication and teaching skills with Indigenous patients and hospital staff.
  5. Demonstrating interest and participation in professional development activities.

Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years recent experience working with Indigenous patients in an acute care setting.
  • Must have extensive experience working in and with the Indigenous community and be familiar with available resources both locally and in rural locations.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

  • Bachelor's degree in a health or social services discipline; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge and awareness of Indigenous culture and traditional healing practices.
  • Must have knowledge of MS Office (Word), Outlook, Email, knowledge of Access database.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Must have knowledge of the First Nation and Inuit Health Branch policies and procedures; functions and roles of Nursing Stations; First Nation Health Centres; Northern Medical Unit; and Telehealth technology.
  • Familiarity in implementing a multi-disciplinary team approach to client care.
  • Demonstrated competency in patient teaching.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous languages preferred.
  • Knowledge of traditional and/or contemporary Indigenous customs and practices.

 

This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.

The WRHA legal entity includes Churchill Health Centre, Deer Lodge Centre, Golden West Centennial Lodge, Grace Hospital, Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg, Pan Am Clinic, River Park Gardens, Victoria General Hospital, WRHA corporate programs, and WRHA community health services.
