Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient-centered clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations.
Position Overview
The incumbent is responsible for organization of the clinic including: ensuring the smooth flow of patient and clerical activity; liaising with referring physicians, hospital departments, nurses and patients in the clinic; coordinating pre-op testing and surgeries; assisting with minor surgical procedures and patient education pre and post-operatively; administering medications (under direct physician supervision); pre-screening triage patients and performing tests; maintaining and calibrating equipment; and ordering pharmaceutical stock and office supplies.
Experience
- A minimum of six months related experience in a clinical environment is required.
- Previous experience working with children in ophthalmology preferred.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
- Complete high school education, Manitoba standards, required.
- Successful completion of an Ophthalmic Assistant course (institutional or home study) recognized by the Joint Commission on Allied Personnel in Ophthalmology is required or must be attained within one year of hire.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Qualifications and Skills
- Preference will be given to those applicants competent in an Indigenous language and/or knowledge in Indigenous customs, traditions and values.
- Typing 35 wpm required.
- Medical terminology (75% pass mark) required.
- Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office Word) required.
- Knowledge of clinical optics, ocular motility, visual field testing and ocular pharmacology preferred.
- Must have excellent communication, organizational, interpersonal and decision-making skills.
- Must be able to function independently and communicate effectively with all levels of staff.
