Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient-centered clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations.
Position Overview
Under the general supervision of the Manager of Patient Transport and in collaboration with the Advance Practice Respiratory Therapist Clinical Service Lead and the Program Teams, the incumbent is responsible for:
- Educational program development for:
- Nursing staff including R.N.s, PCP’s, and APRT’s.
- Support staff including U.A.s, N.A.s, U.C.s and/or applicable technicians.
- External SDO’s as needed.
- Teaching and learning activities.
- Establishing and maintaining effective collaboration with all agencies involved in Patient Transport i.e. city and rural facilities, WFPS, MTCC, VECTRS, PTS, Air Ambulance programs, STARS, etc.
- Reviewing, revising, and developing patient transport policies, procedures, SOP’s and guidelines for Adult, Neonatal and Pediatric transport.
- Nursing practice standards.
- Patient education development.
- Professional and Self Development.
Note: The priority and percentages of each of the above functions will vary throughout the
year and possibly from year to year.
Experience
- Must have a minimum of four years of recent relevant critical care nursing experience with demonstrated competency in a defined area of clinical nursing practice.
- Previous supervisory experience and teaching, education and program development and evaluation is preferred.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
- Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing required.
- Master’s Degree in Nursing is preferred.
- Certificate or certification in Intensive Care Nursing preferred.
- Competency with word processing and presentation programs, required.
- Certification as an instructor in a specialty training course Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required, Basic Life Support (BLS) required, Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP) preferred.
Certification/Licensure/Registration
- Must be registered with the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM).
- Active participation in professional associations e.g. Association of Regulated Nurses of Manitoba (ARNM) preferred.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Instructor status required.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Instructor status preferred.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) provider status required.
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) instructor preferred.
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) provider required.
- Canadian Aerospace Medical and Aeromedical Transport Association (CAMATA) training required.
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) at the Health Care Provider Level instructor status required.
- Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC), International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) or PHTLS or ATLS from an accredited training provider.
- Valid Class V Manitoba Driver’s License.
- Valid passport with no international restrictions.
Qualifications and Skills
- Scope of practice as documented in the Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA).
- Excellent interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to problem-solve in complex situations.
- Evidence of knowledge of the principles of adult learning and teaching strategies.
- Demonstrated ability to function creatively and independently.
- Demonstrated commitment to continued professional development.
- Meets all the requirements of a Transport Nurse Clinician.
- Knowledge and experience in aeromedical transport.
- Experience using the Canadian Triage and Acuity Scale (CTAS).
- Experience with high fidelity simulation in clinical learning, orientation and competency maintenance.
- Initiates and supports change.
- Demonstrated leadership ability.
