Position Overview

Under the supervision of the Program Director(s)/Manager, Education Services, and while demonstrating a commitment to the Mission, Vision and Values of St. Boniface Hospital, The Critical Care Clinical Educator is responsible for planning, coordinating, implementing and evaluating the Critical Care Nursing Education Program (CCNOP), and the ongoing clinical education of staff and course participants in the critical care units.

Experience

  • A minimum of four (4) years recent clinical experience in Critical Care Nursing (Intensive Care) required.
  • Recent teaching experience (e.g. facilitating for an educational institution, delivering in-services to interprofessionals in a clinical setting, teaching formalized education programs, and/or other similar recognized adult teaching experience) required. 
  • Experience in planning, developing and evaluating educational programs preferred.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

  • Baccalaureate degree in Nursing required.
  • Master's degree in Nursing preferred.
  • Graduate of a post-basic course in Intensive Care Nursing, or recognized equivalent required.
  • Advance preparation in adult education preferred.
  • Eligible for academic appointment with the University of Manitoba.

Certification/Licensure/Registration

  • Current C.R.N.M. registration required.
  • Active participation in professional associations e.g. Association of Regulated Nurses of Manitoba (ARNM) preferred.
  • Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) certification in critical care is an asset.
  • Provider level Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) registration required.
  • Instructor level ACLS preferred.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Scope of practice as documented in the Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA).
  • Knowledge of computer systems and proficiency in the use of word processing, email and internet software required.
  • Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize care for an individual patient or group of patients.

Physical Requirements

  • Position involves physical activities such as standing, transferring and transporting patients and equipment.
  • May encounter exposure to disease, radiation, toxic materials, noise, allergens, etc.
  • May encounter aggressive and/or agitated individuals.
