Position Overview

Processing and sterilizing medical and surgical instrumentation and various related supplies and equipment required by Resident Care Units and the various Clinics throughout the Health Centre as well the Surgical Complex and some external health care clinics.

Experience

  • Six (6) months previous experience in MDR functions in a health care environment an asset.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

  • Grade 12.
  • Must have successful completion of a recognized Medical Device Reprocessing Technician program with certification.

Certification/Licensure/Registration

  • Completion of Ethylene Oxide certification.  
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training requirements for this position shall be in accordance with the Employer policy.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Ability to function as an effective member of an interdisciplinary team, including collaboration, team work and good communication skills.
  • Excellent communication skills and a good command of the English language.
  • Follows departmental policies and procedures in accordance to understanding and applying the principles of infection control, disinfection and sterilization.
  • Practices safety when handling surgical instruments, equipment, operating departmental equipment and handling potentially hazardous materials.
  • Utilizes reference material effectively.
  • Demonstrates ability to assess problems and initiates problem-solving technique.
  • Ability to prioritize workload assignments.
  • Maintains accurate records related to MDR functions.
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision, showing organization and adaptability.
  • An aptitude for detail is required.

Physical Requirements

  • Physical health to meet the requirements of the position.
  • Ability to work shifts.

 

 

This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.
