Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient-centered clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations.

 

Position Overview

Reporting to the Manager, Warehouse and Traffic, the incumbent is responsible for transporting assorted goods, materials, equipment, furniture and waste as described in procedures and according to established schedules or as directed by the Dispatcher.

Experience

  • Experience in the operation of motorized material handling equipment required.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

  • Minimum Grade 12 Manitoba Standards, required.
  • Must complete and maintain recognized WHMIS training.
  • Must complete an in-house instructional course on safe lifting practices.
  • Ongoing participation in relevant seminars and course relating to Warehouse and Traffic operations and customer service, required.

Certification/Licensure/Registration

  • Must possess a current certificate from the Manitoba Safety Council or equivalent certificate for the Low Lift Pallet Mover and/or Tractor Operator.
  • Forklift license required.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Preference will be given to those applicants competent in an Indigenous language and/or knowledge in Indigenous customs, traditions and values.
  • Knowledge of the Health Sciences Centre complex preferred.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Good interpersonal and problem-solving skills required.
  • It is expected that the individual conduct his/herself in a manner that is consistent with the customer service approach.
  • As Supply & Distribution Services is a custodian of the HSC’s goods, it is critical that the individual brings with them the qualities of honesty and integrity.

Physical Requirements

  • Position requires considerable bending, stretching, walking, pushing and lifting.
  • Repetitive lifting of boxes containing I.V.’s (30 lbs.) and photocopy paper (50 lbs.).
  • May be required to work in cramped conditions (compactor area, incinerator).
  • Requires pushing or pulling carts and palettes that may weigh up to 2,100 pounds across carpets and hard surface flooring, off and on elevators, up and down ramps.
  • Must wear hardhat and ear protection.
  • Required to handle hazardous/ dangerous goods in accordance with WHMIS regulations.
  • Exposure to temperature variations (i.e. moves to Finance building).
