Position Overview

Under the direction of the Adult Day Centre Coordinator, the Adult Day Centre Attendant assists patients/residents to achieve their optimum social, physical, mental and emotional functioning through participation in Day Centre programming. Responsibilities include assisting clients to participate in program alternatives, assisting in the provision of client personal care, providing input in to activity program development, maintaining the Day Centre environment, participating as a member of the Day Centre team and participating in personal development.

Experience

  • Previous experience in the provision of therapeutic recreation and socialization programs for the elderly and/or disabled an asset.
  • Previous experience in providing personal care for the geriatric population and for individuals with disabilities.
  • Previous experience in promoting independent lifestyles for the geriatric population and for individuals with disabilities.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

  • Grade 12 graduate, Manitoba Standards.
  • Activities Program and Development Certificate or Health Care Aide Certificate or a combination of other education and/or work experience may be considered.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Demonstrated excellence in written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of current trends and practices in therapeutic recreation and leisure programs.
  • Knowledge of issues facing the geriatric client.
  • Ability to relate in a tactful, courteous and reassuring manner towards the elderly and disabled.
  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand English.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of proper lifting and handling techniques.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive interpersonal relationships.

 

This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.
