Position Overview

Under the direction of the Lead - Nutrition & Food Services or Designate, the Coordinator - Nutrition & Food Services manages and coordinates the day to day operations of Nutrition & Food Services, with emphasis placed in the production and service of quality food, food safety and sanitation. The Coordinator - Nutrition & Food Services gathers data, monitors food service efficiencies and follows established standards according to related regional policies and procedures and any government regulations and legislation.

 

The incumbent assumes responsibility for establishing and maintaining high standards of service in the management of fiscal, human and material resources for the service.

 

The incumbent exercises the appropriate level of initiative and independent judgment in determining work priorities, work methods to be employed and action to be taken on unusual matters. The position functions in a manner that is consistent with the mission, vision and values; and the policies of Southern Health-Santé Sud.

Experience

  • Minimum three (3) years relevant experience, preferably in health care or institutional food services setting.
  • Minimum two (2) years previous supervisory experience.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

  • Grade 12 education or equivalent.
  • Certificate in Nutrition & Food Service Management from an accredited program, such as the Canadian Healthcare Association, or equivalent, other combinations of education and experience may be considered.
  • Current Food Handler Training Certificate Level 1 or equivalent Food Sanitation course.
  • Commercial Cook Training is considered an asset.
  • Completion of a recognized business or leadership course/program or equivalent.
  • Suitable combination of education and experience may be considered.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Knowledge and understanding of therapeutic and modified texture diets.
  • Knowledge of computerized scheduling/payroll program.
  • Proficiency in:
    • Microsoft Office Applications and online training.
    • Electronic Menu Management Information System (EMMIS) is required for positions located in sites utilizing an Electronic Menu Management System.
  • Demonstrated ability to:
    • Perform tasks with dexterity, speed and efficiency while maintaining high quality standards.
    • Be flexible and adapt to evolving techniques and procedures in a changing environment.
    • Maintain a high level of attention to detail, ensuring accuracy and quality in all tasks.
    • Take charge and initiate actions towards the achievement of goals.
    • Follow verbal and written directions.
    • Use, care, operate and maintain the equipment necessary for food preparation.
    • Handle chemicals and cleaning supplies as per defined procedures.
    • Work independently as well as with others.
    • Establish and maintain positive working relationships with others.
    • Communicate effectively with staff, health care professionals and co-workers, etc.
    • Understand and adhere to the organization's values and standards of ethical behaviour.
    • Respect confidentiality including paper, electronic formats and other mediums.
  • Demonstrated:
    • Flexibility in approach to daily assigned tasks.
    • Competency to do cash management.
    • Problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
    • Ability and knowledge of internal structure, programs, services, and external partnerships and understands how their position fits with Southern Health-Santé Sud.
  • Given the cultural diversity of our region, the ability to respect and promote a culturally diverse population is required.
  • Proficiency of both official languages is essential for target and designated bilingual positions.
  • Good work and attendance record.
  • Requires a valid Class 5 driver's license, an all-purpose insured vehicle and liability insurance of at least $1,000,000.

Physical Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to meet the physical and mental demands of the job.
  • No hazardous or significantly unpleasant conditions.
  • May work occasionally evenings and weekends as necessary.
  • Will be required to travel to other regional facilities as the position duties may require.
