Position Overview
The Activity/Recreation Supervisor develops, coordinates, implements and evaluates a recreation program of activities to meet the individual needs of the Personal Care Home residents and individuals waiting placement in the Transitional Care Unit. The Activity/Recreation Supervisor is responsible for the organization and supervision of the activities provided by the Therapeutic Recreation Team.
The incumbent exercises the appropriate level of initiative and independent judgment in determining work priorities, work methods to be employed and action to be taken on unusual matters. The position functions in a manner that is consistent with the mission, vision and values; and the policies of Southern Health-Santé Sud.

Experience
- Minimum of two (2) years recent relevant experience in health care required.
- Minimum of two (2) years recent relevant leadership experience.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
- Recognized Therapeutic Recreation Activity Programming certificate or equivalent relevant education required or; Minimally, completion of four courses of the “Therapeutic Recreation Facilitator for Older Adults” program (Red River College) or equivalent is required:
- Foundation to Therapeutic Recreation (RECF-1045).
- Leisure Concepts (RECF-1046 TR).
- Cognitive Impairment (RECF-1047 TR).
- Documentation Skills (RECF-1051).
- Safe Food Handling Certificate.
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS).

- Proficiency with Microsoft applications including Outlook.
- Working knowledge in the use of office equipment.
- Demonstrated oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a collaborative interdisciplinary environment.
- Demonstrated ability to function and make decisions independently.
- Demonstrated ability to use an analytical and inquiing approach to solve problems.
- Demonstrated ability to be flexible and well-organized.
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently with minimum supervision and as a team member.
- Ability to maintain positive working relationships and function effectively in a team setting.
- Given the cultural diversity of our region, the ability to respect and promote a culturally diverse population is required.
- Proficiency of both official languages is essential for target and designated bilingual positions.
- Demonstrated ability to respect confidentiality including paper, electronic formats and other mediums.
- Good work and attendance record.
- Requires a valid Class 5 driver's license, an all-purpose insured vehicle and liability insurance of at least $1,000,000.
Physical Requirements
- Demonstrated ability to meet the physical and mental demands of the job.
- No hazardous or significantly unpleasant conditions.
- May work occasionally evenings and weekends as necessary.
- Will be required to travel to other regional facilities as the position duties may require.
