Position Overview

Under the direction of the Manager of Patient Care, the Ward Clerk is responsible for supportive duties, mainly of clerical and reception as related to patient care in the Nursing Unit.

Experience

  • Previous experience in clerical and/or secretarial duties required.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

  • Grade 12 education or equivalent.
  • Certification Program for Ward Clerks (or equivalent) or a willingness to obtain equivalent courses during employment commencing one (1) year after employment start date.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology required.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Proficient in typing (40-50 wpm).
  • Computer knowledge required, Knowledge of Word/Excel Programs an asset.
  • Familiar with office systems, computers, photocopiers, facsimiles and complex telephone systems.
  • Demonstrates the ability to work cooperatively with the public and staff as a team member.
  • Displays a polite, helpful and courteous manner when communicating with patients/residents, families, the general public and other staff members/consultants.
  • Demonstrates a calm and confident manner during emergency and/or difficult situations.
  • Displays good interpersonal and telephone relations with physicians, administrative Staff, Nursing staff, other facility departments, patients, family and the general public.
  • Maintains confidentiality with all information entrusted to the position and represents the CRHA in a professional and positive manner.

This Indefinite Term may expire subject to one (1) weeks’ notice.

 

This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.
