Position Overview

Under the direction of the Manager of Volunteer Services, and while demonstrating a commitment to the Purpose and Values of Concordia Hospital, the Volunteer Services Assistant provides support to the operation of Volunteer Program by assisting with the recruitment, screening, orientation, scheduling, supervision, evaluation, recognition of volunteers and performing other related duties as assigned.

Experience

  • Two (2) years’ experience working in the volunteer services sector including: Volunteer recruitment, interviewing, screening, problem-solving, orientation and training, coaching, support and feedback.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

  • Grade 12 or recognized equivalent.
  • Successful completion of a post-secondary education diploma or certificate in volunteer management, health care administration, and/or Administrative Assistant.
  • A combination of education and experience may be considered.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Effective, respectful and courteous interpersonal communication skills for interaction with all levels of employees, management, volunteers and general public.
  • Exceptional customer service skills with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and assignments.
  • Proficiency in computer operating systems (i.e. Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)  and database management systems.
  • Working knowledge of Volunteer Management software programs such as Better Impact or comparable preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new computer operating systems (i.e. Volunteer management program, MS Teams, etc.).
  • Demonstrated ability to problem solve with tact and diplomacy wherever possible at the lowest level and escalating accordingly.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential issues/information in a professional manner.
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce accurate work with attention to detail.
  • Effective, respectful and courteous interpersonal communication skills for interaction with all levels of employees, management, volunteers and general public.

Physical Requirements

  • The hours will be during the day,  evenings and weekends as required.
  • Physically able to meet the demands of the department. This includes the ability to attend work on patient units to support and evaluate volunteers, special events and other activities as assigned (i.e. complete patient survey’s, patient elections, etc.
  • Some periods of sedentary work may be required.
  • Ability to multi-task and function is a high-volume office with frequent interruptions.
     

 

This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.
