Position Overview
Under the direction of the Resident Care Manager or designate, the Therapeutic Recreation Facilitator develops and implements a variety of therapeutic recreation programs for individual patients/residents, small groups and large groups. The Therapeutic Recreation Facilitator is a participating member of the interdisciplinary team and is responsible for contributing to Person Directed Living.
Experience
- Minimum one year or internship experience providing therapeutic recreation in a long-term care, palliative care or rehabilitation setting, or with seniors along the continuum of care.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
- Therapeutic Recreation Facilitator for Older Adults (RRC), or Baccalaureate degree in Recreation Studies, or equivalent.
- Food Handlers Certificate.
Certification/Licensure/Registration
- Membership in Recreation Connections Manitoba, Therapeutic Recreation Manitoba, CTRS/NTRS or equivalent.
Qualifications and Skills
- Knowledge of therapeutic recreation principles.
- Knowledge of relevant Workplace Safety and Health responsibilities.
- Ability to express ideas and thoughts in English both verbally and in written format.
- Ability to follow directions and work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to organize workload and set priorities.
- Ability to organize and plan for individual, small and large group programs.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Demonstrated ability to use computer applications.
- Familar with MDS (Minimal Data Set) applications an asset.
- Ability to work within financial guidelines/parameters.
- Ability to work safely without injury to self, to patients/residents, or to other staff.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with patients/residents, family members, community members and coworkers.
Physical Requirements
- Physical and mental health to fulfill the responsibilities of the position.
- Regular weekday and weekend hours as per Community/Care Area requirements.
- May encounter environmental and personal hazards including potential sources of infection and patients/residents who are resistive to care/responsive to changes in their environment.
- The position involves moderate physical activity such as walking, standing, lifting and periods of sitting.
This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.
