Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient-centered clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations.
Position Overview
Reporting to the Technical Specialist/Supervisor, and/or the Chief Technologist, the incumbent specializes and works in the various sub-sections of the Perinatal Chemistry section on a rotational basis and performs a variety of technical duties.
Experience
- Three years of experience in Public Health Laboratory desired.
- Three years of experience in Perinatal Chemistry desired.
- Laboratory Information System (LIS) experience desired.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
- Successful completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technology program essential.
- B.Sc., preferred.
Certification/Licensure/Registration
- Licensure with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Manitoba (CMLTM).
Qualifications and Skills
- Knowledge of laboratory technique and theory essential.
- Knowledge and understanding of privacy legislation such as The Personal Health Information Act (PHIA) essential.
- Knowledge of medical and technical terms essential.
- Knowledge of health and safety practices in the laboratory setting essential.
- Knowledge of total quality assurance procedures and practices, including quality control, reagent/calibrator/QC stock maintenance and crossovers essential.
- Knowledge of routine Newborn Screening, Maternal Serum Screening, and Fecal Immunochemical Testing.
- Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both written and oral.
- Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions essential.
- Ability to handle multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment essential.
- Ability to assist in the integration of new technologies/procedures in the various Perinatal Chemistry subsections.
- Excellent critical thinking skills with the ability to identify, solve, and refer technical problems.
- Concise and accurate verbal and written communication skills essential.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team environment are essential.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills essential.
- Strong computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office (e.g., Word) and data analysis using Excel essential.
- Ability to work independently and follow detailed instruction essential.
Physical Requirements
- Anticipated shift: days; other shifts.
- Working weekends, evenings, and stat holidays may be required.
