Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient-centered clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations.

 

Position Overview

Reporting to the Chief Technologist, the Technical Supervisor oversees daily operations in the Perinatal Chemistry section including specimen receiving and program specific screening using manual and automated lab developed and kit-based testing platforms. The employee provides technical expertise and rotates on benches as required.

Experience

  • Significant recent experience working in Perinatal Chemistry including Newborn Screening and Maternal Serum Screening essential.
  • Experience in FIT Colon Cancer Screening essential.
  • Significant recent experience performing and interpreting mass spectrometry, immunoassays, HPLC, and molecular procedures essential.
  • Significant experience in total quality assurance procedures and practices, including quality control essential.
  • Experience writing technical procedures essential.
  • Labware Laboratory Information System (LIS) experience essential.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Training and teaching experience directly related to the position’s requirements essential.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

  • Successful completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technology program essential.
  • Successful completion of the CSMLS Prior Learning Assessment process for a discipline specialty, as deemed by the Employer, may also be considered.
  • B.Sc. preferred.

Certification/Licensure/Registration

  • Current licensure with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Manitoba (CMLTM) essential.
  • Current registration with the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) preferred.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Knowledge of laboratory technique and theory, including mass spectrometry, immunoassays, HPLC, and molecular procedures essential.
  • Knowledge and understanding of privacy legislation including The Personal Health Information Act (PHIA) essential.
  • Knowledge of medical and technical terms essential.
  • Knowledge of health and safety practices in the laboratory setting essential.
  • Knowledge of total quality assurance procedures and practices, including quality control and Westgard Rules essential.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both written and oral.
  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions essential.
  • Ability to handle multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment essential.
  • Ability to assist in integrating new technologies and procedures across Perinatal Chemistry subsections essential.
  • Ability to identify, solve, and refer technical problems essential.
  • Strong leadership skills essential.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team environment essential.
  • Excellent organizational skills essential.
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency in Labware LIMS and Microsoft Office, including Excel data analysis essential.
  • Ability to work independently and follow detailed instruction essential.

  • Working overtime and holidays may be required.
