Position Overview
Supervises and/or participates in all aspects of the Plumbing and Refrigeration trades in relation to construction, alteration, installation, renovation, maintenance, repair and replacement within the MHC complex. Ensures that all responsibilities are performed efficiently and effectively, observing all applicable safety measures, codes, regulations and standards.
Experience
- Minimum of seven years’ experience as a Journeyman Plumber or Fitter with at least five years’ experience in a recognized supervisory or management capacity overseeing installations and maintenance of the building systems, equipment and features maintained by the shop required.
- Must have a demonstrated knowledge of a wide spectrum of building systems and equipment and features maintained in this shop including: domestic water, steam, hydronic, pneumatic air, fire sprinkler, medical gas and high-quality water distributions, sewer and catch basins, lawn irrigation and hydrotherapy pools and a good working knowledge of other systems and equipment found in large hospitals, or health centres.
- Industrial experience would be considered an asset.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
- Complete high school education, Manitoba standards, required.
- Must have a valid Journeyman Plumber Certificate for the Province of Manitoba.
- Current Backflow Tester License required.
- Current Gas “B” License required.
- Pressure welding or gas fitter license would be an asset.
Certification/Licensure/Registration
- Current Backflow Tester License required.
- Pressure welding or gas fitter license would be an asset.
Qualifications and Skills

- Ability to function as an effective member of an interdisciplinary team, including collaboration, team work and good communication skills.
- Knowledge of the English language consistent with the demands of the position.
- Must be able to show organization, adaptability, individual initiative and good judgement.
- Must be able to work with minimum supervision. Support and mentor employees within Plumbing and HVAC designation and others within the unit as required
- Basic Computer Skills Required: Applicants should have a fundamental understanding of computer operations, including email, word processing.
Physical Requirements
- Physical health to meet the requirements of the position.
This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.
