Staff Development Officer 2024-202-SB

The Staff Development Officer is responsible for offering and delivering learning opportunities to the staff of Actionmarguerite sites.  The person in this position will work with other people and departments to create an overall learning model and associated delivery methods that address the various and somewhat complex needs of the organization including mandatory education elements and other strategic and innovative learning opportunities.  This position supports all service areas and sites with the overall goal of creating a learning culture that supports exceptional care and service to those who live in our environments.  The selected candidate will work closely with leadership and departmental teams to assess staff development needs, prioritize, plan, implement and evaluate programming.

Performs all duties in accordance with established health and safety regulations/guidelines, policies and procedures (i.e. utilizing personal protective equipment as per safe work procedures).  Notifies management or supervisor of all occurrences, injuries, illnesses or safety and health concerns which are likely to harm themselves, their co-workers, or any others who enter the premises.

Starting Date: To be determined
Shift and Hours of Work: 1.0 FTE - full-time - hours of work currently 08:00 - 16:15
Pay Scale: As per established salary scale
Specifications: This position provides services to our multiple sites. Assignment and hours of work are subject to change at any time as per operational requirements.

Required Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required in Education, Human Resources, Organizational Development, or other related field;
  • Adult Education Certificate or equivalent;
  • A combination of related education and experience will be considered.
  • Five years recent related experience in the area of adult education and/or organizational and staff development, including experience in planning, implementation and evaluation of related programming.
  • Demonstrated experience in process improvement, project management and group facilitation;
  • Experience in developing and managing an e-learning platform and content.

The ideal candidate will be a dynamic, innovative, highly motivated and collaborative team player with a demonstrated ability to:                   

  • Communicate effectively in French and English, both oral and written;
  • Design, develop, implement and evaluate effective, efficient staff development programs;
  • Work effectively independently and as part of a team, with a diverse range of individuals across the organization;
  • Work under pressure, to meet competing demands and deadlines, and to deal effectively with difficult and sensitive situations;
  • Effectively represent Actionmarguerite when collaborating with external partners, upholding Actionmarguerite’s values and mission.
  • A satisfactory employment and attendance record; a current Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search and Adult Abuse Registry Check deemed satisfactory by the Employer; a valid Manitoba Class 5 driver’s licence; and, access to a vehicle.

Knowledge:

  • Current adult-learning concepts and training techniques and tools, i.e., leading approaches and systems for content management and delivery;
  • Actionmarguerite’s Vision, Mission and Values, Resident Bill of Rights, Actionmarguerite’s policies and procedures;
  • Mandatory education requirements per Manitoba Personal Care Home and Accreditation Canada Standards is preferred;
  • French languages service principles, active offer and related learning opportunities is preferred;
  • Person-directed living concepts and approaches is an asset;
  • Human resource management principles, practices, and procedures;
  • Workplace Health and Safety and safe work practices; and
  • W.H.M.I.S programme
This position is designated bilingual (French/English). All staff are hired for the facility. Employees may hold more than one position in different Actionmarguerite facilities, where the sum total of hours does not exceed 1.0 full-time equivalence.
