Position Overview

Under the general supervision of the Regional Indigenous Spiritual Care Coordinator, the incumbent is responsible for: seeking out, assessing and responding to the unique spiritual needs of patients, families and staff in an open and non-judgmental manner; tending to the cultural/spiritual care needs of an individual and family within a medical environment. Providing the necessary guidance and resources to facilitate clients on their healing journey in a manner that is sensitive and respectful.

Experience

  • Active member of a traditional healing environment, with experience in a healthcare setting an asset.
  • Must be comfortable working in a highly structured environment.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to think critically, analyze, conceptualize and apply relevant knowledge to practice.
  • Must be able to work independently and as part of a team within an interfaith, inter-spiritual, interdisciplinary, multicultural setting.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

  • A combination of education and experience as recognized by Indigenous Health and the Elders Advisory Committee will be considered.
  • Recognition by the Indigenous community and ability to demonstrate learning’s from own healing journey and teachings received.
  • Effectively demonstrate and share indigenous knowledge and approaches.

Certification/Licensure/Registration

  • Good standing within community spiritual tradition.

Qualifications and Skills

  • The incumbent is required to be involved in cultural/spiritual practice as a way of life, self-reflective, a critical thinker, involved in ongoing healing and personal growth and is reliable and possess integrity and excellent work ethic.

Physical Requirements

  • Able to work within a large geographic area.
  • Good physical and mental health.
  • Incumbent may be exposed to traumatic events, grief and loss, and mental stress.

 

 

This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.
