Position Overview

Working with both residents and prospective residents as well as their families, the Social Worker provides direct social work service. The Social Worker functions as a member of the interdisciplinary team and provides psycho-social assessment and a range of interventions to assist residents and their families in dealing with personal, family or social difficulties related to their illness and placement plans. The incumbent will act as a liaison between the resident, their identified advocate, the facility and external community agencies. The Social Worker acts as a clinical social work resource within the Department of Social Work and the Health Centre with regard to matters of service and administration in line with training, experience and ability.

Experience

  • Minimum of two (2) years within the last five (5) years related clinical social work experience.
  • Previous experience within a Long-Term Care setting is an asset.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

  • Bachelor of Social Work  (BSW) degree from a recognized and accredited university.

Certification/Licensure/Registration

  • Must be registered with Manitoba College of Social Workers.
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Training requirements for this position shall be in accordance with the Employer policy.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Works within the Centre’s core values, philosophy, vision, C.Q.I. goals, policies and procedures. 
  • Ability to work independently and communicate in a sensitive and effective manner with residents, potential residents and other health care providers.
  • Demonstrates a high level of sensitivity to issues of confidentiality regarding client information.
  • Demonstrated skills and ability in working with and understanding the needs of the residents, families and other staff members as well as personnel from other community agencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to present concise, meaningful written reports and articulate the social/psychological needs of the residents.
  • Demonstrates a high degree of professional judgement, personal initiative, creativity and adaptability to a constantly evolving health care environment. 
  • Demonstrates a strong commitment to the profession of Social Work, operates within the parameters of generally accepted principles and standards of practice as well as adhering to the Canadian Association of Social Workers’ Code of Ethics.

Physical Requirements

  • This position involves a significant degree of travel within the facility as well as some travel outside the facility.
  • The incumbent must be able to work with fluctuating levels of stress and be able to manage a workload while dealing with multiple interruptions.

 

 

This maternity/parental term may expire sooner than the date indicated subject to a minimum of two (2) weeks’ notice.

 

This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.
