Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient-centered clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations.

 

Position Overview

Under the direction of the Manager of Health Services, the incumbent is responsible for assisting in the provision of effective, efficient secretarial support in an adult outpatient setting. Duties include: assessment transcription, telephone/reception duties, taking and relaying messages, greeting and directing patients/staff, answering routine questions, photocopying, faxing and entering data. Provides coverage as required for the Department of Psychiatry.

Experience

  • One (1) year previous related experience required, preferably in a mental health environment.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

  • Complete high school education, Manitoba standards, required.
  • Successful completion of a recognized secretarial training program required.
  • A combination of education and experience may be considered.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Typing 50 wpm required.
  • Medical Terminology (75% pass mark) required.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of Microsoft office (Word and Outlook) required. Access, Excel and PowerPoint preferred.
  • Desktop publishing applications (MS Publisher) preferred.
  • Knowledge of GenCAN ‘Contact’ database and the Health Sciences Centre (HSC) ATD system preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team environment required.
  • Must have excellent English communication skills, both oral and written.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequent interruptions.
  • Due to the nature of the work in the department, the incumbent must be able to exercise tact and patience with difficult situations that may arise when in contact with patients and/or the public.

 

 

Preference will be given to those applicants competent in an Indigenous language and/or knowledge in Indigenous customs, traditions and values.
