Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient-centered clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations.

 

Position Overview

Under the general direction of the Secretary 4, the incumbent is responsible for assisting in the provision of effective, efficient secretarial support in the Forensic Services setting.

Duties include: typing a variety of correspondence, assessment transcription, telephone/reception duties, taking and relaying messages, handling emergency calls and directing individuals to appropriate personnel, greeting and directing patients/staff, preparing statements for outside agencies and ordering charts for weekly clinics and preparing related billing.

Experience

  • One year related experience required.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

  • Complete high school education, Manitoba standards, required.
  • Successful completion of a recognized secretarial/administrative training program required.
  • A combination of education and experience may be considered.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Preference will be given to those applicants competent in an Indigenous language and/or knowledge in Indigenous customs, traditions and values.
  • Typing 50 wpm.
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and Dictaphone required.
  • Knowledge of medical and legal terminology preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team environment.
  • Must have excellent English communication skills, both oral and written.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequent errands to several different areas of the hospital and/or university.
  • Some lifting and moving of miscellaneous items required.
  • Due to the nature of the work in the department, must be able to deal with difficult situations that may arise when in contact with patients and/or the public.
