Position Overview

Provides respectful personal care to residents providing for, and promoting dignity in personal hygiene, activity and rest, nutrition, elimination, safety and other aspects of quality of life, in accordance with individualized care plans, and the Hospice mission, vision and values.

Experience

  • Experience in care for individuals living with progressing illness to end-of-life preferred.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

  • Grade 12 education preferred.
  • Health Care Aide certification from a recognized educational institution/college, or equivalent.
  • Completion of HCA palliative care course preferred.

Certification/Licensure/Registration

Current B.C.L.S. or ability to obtain same prior to employment.
Successful completion of Food Service Handler's course.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Demonstrated ability to understand, speak and write English.
  • Aptitude and desire to contribute to a home-like atmosphere in which care for persons at end of life is central to all activities.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with residents, families, co-workers, volunteers, visitors and other persons from the community who are associated with the Hospice.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in an environment that values healthy team functioning, accepting and following instructions, and contributing to care planning for the resident as appropriate.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and an ability to work with a minimal direction.
  • Demonstrated ability to work safely without injury to self or to residents.
  • Demonstrated ability to lift and transfer patients/residents on a frequent basis, utilizing proper body mechanics and mechanical devices.

This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.
