Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient-centered clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations.

 

Position Overview

Shared Health Research and Innovation (“SHRI”) leads, fosters, disseminates, implements, and develops capacity for interdisciplinary innovation and research excellence in Manitoba. SHRI adheres to ethical standards and scientific integrity and promotes evidence to inform health system decisions for improved patient care and experiences.Shared Health Research and Innovation (“SHRI”) leads, fosters, disseminates, implements, and develops capacity for interdisciplinary innovation and research excellence in Manitoba. Under the general direction of the Shared Health Research and Innovation leadership, the incumbent will play a critical role in facilitating and supporting clinical and health research within Shared Health and the province of Manitoba and will ensure that research involving human participants and/or the respective institution complies with applicable laws and institutional policies.

The incumbent will be primarily responsible for, at minimum, one of the following areas, however, cross training and basic knowledge of each of the areas is required.

Experience

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience within the last 5 years working within an academic, institutional or industry research environment required:
    • Previous experience leading research review and approval processes, coordinating workflows to meet deadlines, and working collaboratively with diverse academic, research and clinical health professionals to establish a strong reputation in the local and national research community required.
    • Previous experience applying research methods and approaches in a specific research area of the health industry and ensuring compliance with institutional and research specific policies, processes and legislation required.
    • Experience working with multidisciplinary research teams and clinical programs.
    • Ability to communicate with stakeholders from diverse functional areas, and convey complex information in tangible business terms.
    • Experience with large information systems, data management and information management.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

  • Post-secondary degree in clinical research, health sciences or related applied sciences from an accredited educational institution required.
  • Related diploma or certificate in a relevant research area preferred.

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

  • Possess strong analytical skills and high attention to detail with the ability to identify inaccuracies, inconsistencies, and omissions.
  • Strong client-responsive and customer service mindset that blends analytical acumen with interpersonal skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with an ability to articulate technical information to diverse audiences.
  • Good working knowledge of business software, such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook), Acrobat and Virtual Conferencing Software (e.g. MS Teams/Zoom).
  • Demonstrated applied knowledge of research related policies, procedures and regulatory frameworks and institutional policies and procedures.
  • Ability to take initiative and work on multiple assignments simultaneously with appropriate prioritization while balancing the need for quick turnaround within longer-term strategic efforts.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and professionalism and maintain composure and productivity despite multiple deadlines, frequent interruptions, and distractions and competing priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply unit practices, guidelines, policies and standard operating procedures.
  • Demonstrate professionalism in recognizing expectations in work culture to maximize success in the workplace.
  • Capacity to bring improvements and recommendations to management and work harmoniously with a diverse team which includes SHRI leadership, colleagues and collaborators.

Physical Requirements

  • Willingness to work remotely or in an office setting as required.
  • Must be able to work safely in a typical computerized office environment with frequent meetings, and to lift and carry items of up to approximately 10 kg.
  • Interruptions to respond to inquiries are common; dedicated and focused time for planning and concentration can be scheduled.
  • Must have a valid Manitoba driver’s license for travel within the province.
