Qualifications:
The Research Associate 1 is a person who possesses the qualifications and expertise to conduct research activities independently in collaboration with Primary Investigators and other researchers. The primary function of the Research Associate 1 is to independently perform a variety of research activities within a research program while developing strategies and capacity building to enable high-quality research. In doing so, duties may include oversight of other researchers and technical personnel and participation in various aspects of student research.
Required:
Level of Formal Education & Experience
- Normally holds a doctoral degree or relevant degree in a relevant discipline, or a Doctor of Medicine degree
- On an exception basis, those with an MSc and significant (>5yrs) research experience and demonstrated ability to work independently may be considered.
- Relevant experience and training conducting research independently post-degree, and experience with relevant research methodologies and study types
- Experience with clinical trials and observational studies
- Experience in relevant statistical software packages
- Experience in relevant qualitative data software programs
- Experience in relevant lab techniques
- Experience managing advanced and complex datasets
- Experience with knowledge synthesis and translation activities
An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Physical Requirements
- Physically capable of performing the duties as assigned, which may include mobility and/or moderate to heavy lifting.

- Ability to complete relevant courses and/or obtain relevant certifications (e.g., WHIMIS, Animal User Training, human/animal ethics)
- Must have satisfactory employment record
- Must be legally able to work in Canada
Preferred:
- Experience in life sciences research working with human/patient specimens including solid/liquid tissue sample processing
- Experience performing varieties of molecular and diagnostic assays (ie PCR, FISH, IHC/IF, Sequencing)
- Experience in relevant lab techniques including cell analysis of patient samples (ie. FACS/sorting, imaging, FISH and other relevant molecular assays) as evidenced by previous peer-reviewed publications/presentations and/or grant applications
- Experience in relevant statistical software packages including MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator/Acrobat Pro and statistical analysis software
- CTRNet Basic Education Package
- PHIA (personal health information act)
- TCPS2 (online module – interagency advisory panel on Research Ethics 2)
- Previous experience working in multi-disciplinary/investigator team environments
- Previous experience preparing research data for meetings, presentations, figures, grants, etc.
- Ability to speak French
This is a dynamic position with roles in biospecimen processing/storage/cataloguing, research support, team building and liaising and development of new research areas/assays/data to support new research initiatives.
