Job Summary:
The position coordinates all cancer registration activities at the St. Boniface/MacCharles Unit for the Province of Manitoba. Participates in the collection, abstraction, utilization and analysis of complex medical data for the Provincial Cancer Registry. Accurately encodes all related cancer data from cytology, pathology, autopsy reports, report of malignant neoplasms, vital statistics death listings, hospital and clinic charts to be recorded in the computerized cancer registry data base. Collects tumour data for all disease sites in Collaborative Stage system. Works with staff in Records and with clinicians at both MacCharles and St. Boniface Units. Works independently, assigns work as required, and performs quality review and audits on cases for reporting to Canadian Cancer Registry at Statistics Canada.

Level of Formal Education & Experience
- Health Information Technology Degree (4 year program) or Health Information Technology Program (2 year certificate)
- Certified Tumour Registrar (CTR) required
- Experience in AJCC (American Joint Committee on Cancer) T.N.M. and Collaborative Staging essential.
- Three years' experience as a Cancer Registrar in a Cancer Registry or related discipline.
- Experience with ICD-O 3d Edition (International Classification of Diseases for Oncology), ICD9-CM/ICD-10 (International Classification of Diseases Clinical Modification), and CCI (Canadian Classification of Interventions) coding required. Experience with SEER (Surveillance Epidemiology and End Results Program) Multiple Primary and Histology (MP/H) Coding Rules required.
- Microsoft office required (Word, Excel, Access, Power Point)
- Experience in MAXON Plus, Varian MedOncology, and Enterprise Viewer/Client Registry computer system required.
- Member of the National Cancer Registrars Association and/or Canadian Health Information Management Association.
- Judgement and problem solving skills required.
- Excellent oral/written communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to supervise, direct, coach, and monitor job performance.
