Position Overview

The Emergency Program Regional Nurse Educator is an integral part of the Regional ED team. This individual works closely with regional staff and site educators to create and deliver educational sessions and educational tools/resources. The Emergency Program Regional Nurse Educator is involved in orientation, advanced  ED education/certification, and continuing education for ED and Urgent Care staff within WRHA.

 

Under the general supervision of the WRHA Emergency Program Director and in collaboration with the regional and site Emergency Program teams, the incumbent is responsible for:

  • Planning, delivering and evaluating the WRHA Emergency Program Orientation
  • Identifying priority learning needs and implementing strategies to address them for all emergency/urgent care department clinical staff
  • Modeling nursing excellence and providing clinical knowledge in collaboration as part of the clinical excellence team to enhance the care provided
  • Developing and implementing the required learning modules to support the strategic vision of the
  • emergency program for staff from novice to expert in the ED/UC environment
  • Engaging in collaborative activities to promote and enhance evidence informed clinical practice with the goal of excellence and improved organizational effectiveness/efficiency
  • Modeling and supporting inter-professional practice
  • Modeling commitment to continuous professional development and responsibility

 

 

Note: The priority and percentages of each of the above functions will vary throughout the year. Time spent at individual sites will vary depending on need as assessed from time to time.

Experience

  • Minimum of four years recent emergency nursing experience required.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

  • Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing required.
  • Master's Degree in Nursing preferred (equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered).

Certification/Licensure/Registration

  • Registration with or eligibility for registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (C.R.N.M.) required. Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) certification in a related clinical area preferred.
  • Advanced Emergency Nursing Education/Certification preferred.
  • Current CPR (Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers) certification.
  • Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required, Instructor level preferred.
  • Current Trauma Nursing Care Course (TNCC) preferred (or required to complete within 6 months of hiring).
  • Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) preferred (or required to complete within 6 months of hiring).

Qualifications and Skills

  • Competency in applicable digital technology application and in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Power Point, LMS training systems and/or other presentation software.
  • Excellent interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to problem-solve in complex situations.
  • Knowledge of the principles of adult learning and teaching strategies.
  • Ability to function creatively and independently.
  • Ability to initiate and support change.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability.
  • Commitment to continued professional development.

This term position may end earlier as outlined in your collective agreement.

 

This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.
