Position Overview
The PRIVACY AND CORPORATE AFFAIRS OFFICER serves as Privacy Officer for The Personal Health Information Act (PHIA), providing guidance, oversight and policy review to ensure organizational and individual compliance with the legislation; ensuring that personal health information is protected during its collection, use, disclosure, storage and destruction in accordance with PHIA; and leading PHIA breach investigations working in coordination with managers and Human Resources. The PRIVACY AND CORPORATE AFFAIRS OFFICER also serves as the site Privacy Coordinator for The Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA), including managing FIPPA requests and providing staff education on FIPPA. The position also provides administrative and coordination support to the SBH Corporate Office for site policy review and administration, corporate governance matters, compliance with legislation and policy, coordination with elections officials, and other corporate affairs matters.
Experience

Three-to-five (3-5) years’ related experience in the privacy field, preferably in a health care environment; understanding privacy and other legislation; developing/reviewing policies and procedures.
Note: An equivalent combination of education and experience, as deemed recognized by the Hospital, may be considered in lieu of the above.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
- Bachelor’s degree in any discipline, preferably public administration, business, political studies or a similar field.
- A Master’s degree in one of those same fields is preferred but not required.
Qualifications and Skills
- Ability to read, write, speak & understand English.
- Ability to read, write, speak & understand French is considered an asset, but is rarely required in the course of duty and not a requirement.
- Knowledge of computer systems and proficiency in the use of common software applications.
- Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, implement and problem solve.
- Demonstrated analytical and conceptual abilities.
- Excellent facilitation and presentation skills with individuals and groups. Ability to establish professional and collegial rapport with various levels of staff and external agencies/stakeholders.
- Ability to adapt to stressful situations and changing organizational environments.
- Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with stakeholders in a collegial manner
- A team player and ability to work independently with initiative.
