This is a Polysomnography trainee position. Once training is successfully completed, employee will be assigned a PSG technician position.

Position Overview

A Polysomnography Trainee, under direct supervision of a Polysomnography Technician, a Polysomnography Technologist, the Polysomnography Coordinator, and Sleep Disorder Centre Manager (indirect reporting relationship to Sleep Disorder Centre Medical Director):

  • Develops competency in and performs the basics of polysomnographic testing and associated interventions.
  • Develops competency in scoring sleep studies.

Experience

  • On the job training is provided by the Centre, which is three (3) months in length.
  • Successful completion of the polysomnography curriculum is required within three (3) months.
  • After successful completion of written exam and training program, the incumbent will advance to the Polysomnography Technician Level.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Post-secondary education preferred.
  • Eligible for certification by Board of Registered Polysomnography Technologists (B.R.P.T.).
  • Courses in Anatomy & Physiology are required; Psychology and Computer Courses are preferred.

Certification/Licensure/Registration

  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training requirements for this position shall be in accordance with the Employer policy.

  • Computer skills/knowledge is required.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, colour vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • In the performance of this job, the employee may be exposed to chemical vapors such as acetone, ether, or glutaraldehyde. There may also be skin contact with these substances. The employee may also be exposed to infectious agents, including blood-borne pathogens.

 

 

 

This term position may end earlier as outlined in your collective agreement.

This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.
