Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient-centered clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations.

 

Position Overview

Under the general direction of the Plumbing Supervisor, the incumbent performs routine maintenance, preventive maintenance and plumbing installations. Works independently and with other trades staff, helpers, Supervisors, support staff and users in assessing, servicing and repairing hospital equipment and building systems. Building systems and equipment serviced include domestic hot and cold water, common and specialty waste piping, heating systems, heat exchangers, medical gas and vacuum systems, fire standpipes, pre-action and wet sprinklers, and other plumbing systems and related equipment.

Experience

  • Minimum five years’ experience in all phases of installation, maintenance, modification, inspection and replacement of a variety of facets of building mechanical and plumbing/heating services and equipment (e.g. heating/cooling systems, pumps, HVAC, fans) and associated components.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

  • Complete high school education, Manitoba standards, required.
  • Province of Manitoba or Interprovincial qualifications as a Journeyman Plumber or Fitter/Steamfitter required.
  • Province of Manitoba or Interprovincial qualifications as both a Journeyman Plumber and Fitter/Steamfitter preferred.

Certification/Licensure/Registration

  • Certificate as Journeyman Plumber or Journeyman Fitter/Steamfitter required.
  • Certificate as both a Journeyman Plumber and Journeyman Fitter/Steamfitter preferred.
  • Must maintain a current City of Winnipeg Cross Connection Control Tester’s License.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Preference will be given to those applicants competent in an Indigenous language and/or knowledge in Indigenous customs, traditions and values.
  • Must have a thorough and comprehensive understanding of plumbing codes and their application in a variety of facilities, buildings and equipment, as well as experience in the installation of plumbing, heating and medical gas systems.
  • Must have the ability to read blueprints and schematic drawings to repair, modify, install, maintain, replace and inspect building mechanical and plumbing/heating services and equipment.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Windows operating system and ability to work with Windows based computer programs and custom application programs related to electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Must have excellent written and oral communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills.

Physical Requirements

  • Position requires heavy lifting, bending, working in elevated places on various pieces of equipment (i.e. scaffolds, ladders) and the ability to work in confined spaces.
