Position Overview

Under the general direction of the Manager of Respiratory Therapy and Perfusion, and clinically on a daily basis the Operating Surgeon and Anaesthetist, and while demonstrating a commitment to the Mission, Values, and Management Philosophy of St. Boniface Hospital, the Staff Perfusionist, is responsible for setting up, operating and dismantling heart-lung machine and related equipment; providing instruction for Perfusionist Students, and general orientation for other health care professionals in regard to the basics of Cardiac Surgery requiring the use of CPB and/or other relevant equipment; and performing other related duties as assigned.

Experience

  • Previous perfusion experience an asset.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

  • Graduate of an Accredited Cardiovascular Perfusion Program.

Certification/Licensure/Registration

  • Certified by the Canadian Society of Clinical Perfusion or Certified by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Ability to interact well with health care professionals at all levels.
  • Good interpersonal communication skills.
  • Adapts readily to various types of clinical situations.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure.
  • Demonstrated ability to deal with technical problems that may arise.
  • Mature, professional manner.
