Position Summary:
NorWest Co-op Community Health is hiring a Payroll Clerk to join the Finance team. This role is responsible for keeping payroll records up to date, processing payroll, and ensuring employees are paid correctly and on time. The Payroll Clerk will work closely with the finance team assisting with workload sharing and coverage and contributing to a respectful work environment.
Experience:
- A minimum of two years of relevant work experience, preferably in healthcare.
- Knowledge of employee pensions, benefits, and experience working with unions.
- Experience with PayWorks payroll software & HEB employee benefits software an asset.
- Experience with accounting software (Sage, Great Plains) & Microsoft Office Suite preffered.
- Excellent communication skills for addressing employee concerns.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Education:
- A diploma in Accounting/Finance/Payroll or related field.
- Alternatively, a combination of relevant education and work experience may be considered.
- Additional training or courses related to payroll or accounting is a plus.
Job duties:
- Prepare and verify earnings statements, including salary, deductions (taxes, union dues, etc.), and benefits such as pensions and insurance.
- Process payroll-related payments, including regular pay, bonuses, vacation pay, and benefits.
- Maintain and update employee attendance, leave, and overtime records for accurate payroll calculations.
- Provide information on payroll matters, benefit plans and collective agreement provisions.
- Complete and verify forms for benefits administration, including pensions, insurance, and employment leave.
- Prepare year-end tax statements, pension reports, Records of Employment, and other payroll-related documents.
- Resolve payroll discrepancies and provide information to employees regarding payroll and benefits.
- Prepare and balance period-end reports and reconcile payrolls to bank statements.
- Ensure compliance with payroll policies and procedures.
