Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient-centered clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations.
Position Overview
Under the general direction of the Manager of Health Services or Designate, the incumbent is responsible for fabrication, repair, and modification of orthoses, foot orthoses and off-the-shelf footwear.
Upon completion of two years on the job training and experience as an Orthotic Technician Trainee, the incumbent will transition to an Orthotic Technician (Unregistered).
NOTE: The degree of supervision received, and the complexity of the tasks performed are in accordance with the incumbent’s demonstrated proficiency.
REMARKS:
Persons allergic to the dust, chemicals, or fumes produced in the manufacture of orthoses would not be suitable for this position.
Experience
- Previous mechanical or machinery experience preferred.
- Previous orthotic or prosthetic experience preferred.
- Good mechanical aptitude required.
- Basic computer knowledge required.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
- Complete high school education (Manitoba standards) required.

- Willingness to adapt to new concepts, techniques and best practice in the academic and clinical fields of healthcare knowledge.
Physical Requirements
- Must demonstrate adequate strength, agility, motor coordination and dexterity for fabrication and fitting of orthoses.
- May be exposed to infectious diseases, blood and body fluids, toxic materials, noise, allergens, physical and emotional stress.
- May encounter aggressive and/or agitated clients/visitors/staff.
- May be required to occasionally work extended hours.
- May be required to work a variety of shifts.
