Job Summary:
Under the general direction of the Director of Patient Services or designate, the Nurse Practitioner RN(NP) participates as a part of the multidisciplinary team, applying current nursing and medical theory, key knowledge, and critical thinking skills to strive to improve the health for clients and the community. The RN(NP) applies current and relevant nursing and medical theory to allow for the contribution of knowledge, development and involvement in advancing the principles of primary health care. The incumbent also demonstrates competency to teach and mentor others and models collaborative practice. The RN(NP) provides leadership in promoting excellence in the delivery of relevant nursing services through the application of advanced knowledge of nursing, evidenced based practice, research utilization, and program evaluation.
The incumbent exercises the appropriate level of initiative and independent judgment in determining work priorities, work methods to be employed and action to be taken on unusual matters. The position functions in a manner that is consistent with the mission, vision, values, and policies of CancerCare Manitoba.
Qualifications:
Education
- Masters of Nursing, Nurse Practitioner Stream or equivalent educational preparation as approved by College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM)
Experience
- Minimum of five (5) years recent clinical nursing experience
Certification/Licensure/Registration
- Responsible for maintaining and providing proof of active registration, in good standing, in RN(NP) Nurse Practitioner category with CRNM
- Current BCLS
Preferred
- Recent clinical oncology nursing experience preferred
- Preference will be given to those applicants competent in First Nations, Metis, and Inuit language and/or knowledge of First Nations, Metis, and Inuit customs, traditions, and values
- Membership in professional association is preferred (e.g. Association of Regulated Nurses of Manitoba, Canadian Association of Nurses in Oncology/Association canadienne des infirmières en oncologie, etc.)
- Knowledge of
- Canadian Nurses Association Code of Ethics for Registered Nurses
- College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba Standards of Practice for RN(NP)
- Advanced nursing care knowledge related to health assessment, diagnostics, pharmacotherapuetics and invasive and minor surgical procedures
- Personal Health Information Act (PHIA), Protection of Persons in Care Act, Mental Health Act, Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS), Principles of Routine Practices (Universal Precautions) and other legislated acts
- Canadian Association of Nurses in Oncology Practice and Standards and Competencies for the Advanced Oncology Nurse
- Strong Model of Practice for Nurse Practitioners
