Position Overview

Under the general direction of the Executive Director, Health Services and in collaboration with other site program educator (s) and other hospital stakeholders, the incumbent is responsible for:

  • Educational program development. 
  • Teaching and learning activities.
  • Nursing practice standards.
  • Client education development.
  • Professional and self-development.

 

Note:  The priority and percentages of each of the above functions may vary over time.

Experience

  • Must have a minimum of four years recent nursing experience with demonstrated clinical competency.
  • Three or more years of geriatric clinical experience and/or long-term care.
  • Previous experience in health care education program development, delivery and evaluation of theory and clinical practice preferred.
  • Must be certified BCLS instructor.
  • Experience in collaborative care and interprofessional education.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

  • Baccalaureate degree in Nursing required.
  • Master’s degree in Nursing preferred.
  • An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.
  • Adult Education certificate from recognized institution preferred.
  • Certificate in geriatric nursing preferred.

Certification/Licensure/Registration

  • Must be registered or eligible for registration with CRNM.

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with inter-professional stakeholders to initiate, plan, coordinate, implement and evaluate programs to meet learning needs of staff.
  • Strong interpersonal, facilitation, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interaction skills and ability to foster collegial relationships.
  • Demonstrated excellence in planning, organizing, implementing, evaluating, time-management and decision-making skills.
  • Deliver and evaluate flexible-delivery materials including online materials.
  • Teaching and assessments of staff in various clinical areas using best practice principles and evidence-based knowledge.
  • Demonstrated ability to problem-solve in complex situations and the ability to create and work in a professional team environment and to work independently at a strategic level.
  • Knowledge of computer systems and demonstrated proficiency in the use of common software.
  • Undertaking appropriate administrative tasks.
  • Demonstrated ability to function creatively and independently.
  • Follows the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM) Standards of Practice for Registered Nurses when providing clinical education and support.
  • Proven track record of teaching and curriculum development activities.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continued professional development.
  • Good employment record.

Physical Requirements

  • Work may include tasks that are physically demanding. Expected to use appropriate techniques with respect to safe patient/resident/client (client) handling and safe material handling.
  • May encounter clients with responsive behaviours.
  • May be required to adjust working hours in consultation with the Chief Nursing Officer to coincide with optimal learning times and working schedules of staff. Evening, night and weekend hours of work may be required.
     

 

This term position may end earlier as outlined in your collective agreement.

 

This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.
