Position Overview

Under the general supervision of the Team Manager, the Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing professional registered nursing services for patients, including those with complex and unpredictable health needs. These services include independent nursing services, administration of prescribed medical treatments, a leadership role within the healthcare team, and facilitating coordination of patient care and discharge. Demonstrates a commitment to the vision, values, goals, and objectives of the region/facility/unit.

The RN applies knowledge and judgment to contribute to a patient’s achievement of healthcare goals. The RN provides care that is holistic, compassionate, culturally sensitive and respectful of the individuality of the patient, family and their support system. The RN is responsible for providing total patient care but may delegate some aspects of this care to other healthcare team members in a staff mix model. The RN provides care to patients and families utilizing the nursing process.

Experience

  • Three years recent experience in acute care nursing required.
  • Demonstrated expertise in intravenous therapy required.
  • Pediatric and community experience is an asset.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

  • Graduate of an approved School of Nursing required.
  • Baccalaureate degree in Nursing is preferred.

Certification/Licensure/Registration

  • Responsible for maintaining and providing proof of active registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM).
  • Active participation in professional associations e.g. Association of Regulated Nurses of Manitoba (ARNM) preferred.
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Training requirements for this position shall be in accordance with the Employer policy.
  • Driver’s license and access to motor vehicle.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Scope of practice as documented in the Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA)/Registered Psychiatric Nurses Act.
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent teaching and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and maintain professional standards.
  • Ability to work as a team member.

Physical Requirements

  • Moderate physical effort required.

 

 

This term position may end earlier as outlined in your collective agreement.

 

This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.
