The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations.

 

The successful applicant may be eligible for an annual full-time incentive of up to $2,000 each year until 2025 as per MOU #31 of the current MNU collective agreement.

Position Overview

EPPIS is a Shared Health Mental Health and Addictions interdisciplinary team that provides early intervention services for adolescents and young adults experiencing a first episode of psychosis. EPPIS is a modified assertive case management model that provides early identification, prompt assessment and comprehensive, phase-specific psychiatric treatment and psychosocial intervention in the community. The staff work with the individual, family and other supports to provide psycho-education, support and resources over a 2-year period. EPPIS staff will also assist the individual to provide them with appropriate supports and services when they are prepared for discharge. Service delivery maybe provided individually and in group format.


Main Function:
Under the general supervision of the EPPIS Team Leader the nurse is responsible for providing case management services and supports to individuals involved with the EPPIS team. They are also responsible for coordinating medical services and medication management for individuals receiving EPPIS services.

The nurse is responsible for assessing, planning, developing, and coordinating treatment, rehabilitation along with support services provided to individuals by EPPIS. Under the clinical supervision of the team leader and psychiatrist. The nurse will provide education information related to psychosis, symptoms of psychosis and ways to manage these symptoms. The nurse will incorporate principles of psychosocial rehabilitation and recovery into their practice and function as a clinical member of the interdisciplinary team. The nurse will be responsible for documentation, liaising with pharmacy, medication education to individuals/family/natural supports, administration of oral medications along with long acting injections in the home or the community that are prescribed by the EPPIS psychiatrist or other health prescriber. The nurse will also ensure the individual completes any required lab work or diagnostic tests.  The nurse will complete physical health assessments and monitor for metabolic syndrome.

Experience

  • Minimum four years related community experience working with people who experience symptoms of psychosis. Combination of institution and community experience will be considered.
  • Experience working with youth and young adults.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

  • Nursing degree required.
  • BScMH, Bsc.PN, BN, RPN, RN.

Certification/Licensure/Registration

  • Registered with the College of Nurses of Manitoba. 
  • Registered with the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Manitoba.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Knowledge of:
    • Relevant legislated acts including but not limited to Personal Health Information Act, Protection of Persons in Care Act, Mental Health Act, Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS), Principles of Routine Practices (Universal Precautions).
    • Regional/site/unit policies, procedures, protocols, and guidelines relating to clinical care.
  • Working with individuals from diverse cultural, social, and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Working with youths, young adults and family members.
  • Knowledge of principles of psychosis and early intervention.
  • Working knowledge of treatment, rehabilitation and support in mental health.
  • Skills in assessing, planning, development and coordination of support services.
  • Working knowledge and experience in working with people experiencing addictions.
  • Subject to a criminal record check.

Physical Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license and vehicle required.
