Position Overview

Intensive Community Re-Integration Service works in partnership with Montcalm School and other MATC program areas to provide psychiatric assessments, consultation and day treatment for children and adolescents with complex multi-diagnostic issues. This Nursing position works within an interdisciplinary team and provides a range of interventions. The clients in the service will range in age from 9 – 17 years and have a primary presentation of Autism, Tourette Syndrome, ADHD, Anxiety, Intellectual disability and have a broad range of behavioral, emotional and mental health concerns that impact on their home, school and community environments.  Services are delivered using a family centered approach within an intensive outpatient day treatment service model approach.

Experience
  • Minimum of two years’ experience working with individuals with neurodevelopmental disorders
  • Experience in group therapy preferred
  • Training and demonstrated skill in several clinical modalities
  • Knowledge of child and adolescent development, and mental health issues in childhood and adolescence with an emphasis on Tourette’s, ADHD, ASD, Intellectual disability and Anxiety
  • Knowledge of various neurological disorders, eg. autism, cognitive disabilities, genetic syndromes
  • Must be familiar with psychotropic medications
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
  • Graduate from an approved program in Psychiatric Nursing or Nursing.  (BSc.P.N., B.Sc. M.H. or B.Sc.N. preferred).   
  • Experience in psychiatry is essential.  Child and Adolescent Mental Health experience preferred.
Certification/Licensure/Registration
  • Staff not licensed/registered with a legislated professional body must be registered/certified with an appropriate Association.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Ability to work effectively as a member of an interdisciplinary health team
  • Must be familiar with current behavioural strategies and interventions
  • Work collaboratively with psychiatrists, families and community partners to provide  assessment, education, and interventions
  • Provide treatment interventions for children, adolescents, and families
  • Establish and maintain professional working relationships with the system supports affiliated with the neurodevelopmental community
  • Provide consultation and education around medication and monitoring of side effects
  • Administers and monitors effects of medications and related health care procedures
  • Supports and provides education to parents and caregivers
  • Provides education to the community
  • Provides support to psychiatrist in a clinical setting as required
  • Maintain documentation as required
  • Plans, implements, and evaluates client treatment plans

This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment.
