Position Overview
Under the general direction of the Manager Health Services, the Music Therapist is responsible for using evidence-informed music-based interventions as a therapeutic tool for the people we serve, to restore, maintain and improve mental, physical and emotional health; responding to their psychosocial needs; prioritizing caseloads; managing the daily organizational components of the Music Therapy Program; and supervising music therapy students and interns. The Music Therapist acts in a professional manner adhering to the principles of Person Directed Living.
Experience
- Experience working with adults as a Music Therapist in a healthcare setting preferred.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
- Bachelor of Music Therapy required.
SPECIAL TRAINING:
- Medical Terminology - Therapist is responsible for acquiring appropriate knowledge of terms, disease entities, medical/surgical procedures, tests and protocols specific to their programming.
Certification/Licensure/Registration
- Must be registered with the Canadian Association of Music Therapists OR eligible for certification and become certified within 6 months of hire.
Qualifications and Skills
- Basic computer skills required.
- Trauma informed and culturally competent practice preferred.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills, observation and assessment skills required.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills required.
- Excellent or strong proficiency in a primary instrument and ability to use a range of instruments in therapy.
- Excellent organizational skills required.
- Must demonstrate an understanding of adult and geriatric development, psychosocial and emotional needs of older adults, and therapeutic interventions to support coping, engagement, and well-being through music.

This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment.
