Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient-centered clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations.
Position Overview
The Manitoba Adolescent Treatment Centre (MATC) embraces the goal of Jordan's Principle to ensure that all children and youth have access to the health services they need in a timely manner. Sited within MATC services, this Mental Health Clinician position will primarily focus on receiving and responding to requests for service. The Mental Health Clinician will provide consultation, triage and initial assessments of needs for the purposes of preparing youth and their families for ongoing treatment within the service. Specific duties will also include establishing and maintaining liaison with First Nation community resources, health services, other Jordan’s Principle partners and stakeholders.
This position is based in Winnipeg with service delivery occurring largely over the phone or via Telehealth or other virtual means. Occasional travel to First Nations communities throughout Manitoba may be required.
The Mental Health Clinician will work in collaboration with psychiatrists, primary care physicians, nursing station staff, community service providers, clients and their families.
Experience
- 4-5 years’ experience working with children, adolescents and families in mental health and addictions required.
- Experience working with a variety of First Nations communities; their culture and healing practices.
- Experience completing suicide risk assessments, clinical care planning and system navigation.
- Experience developing and delivering mental health education is considered an asset.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
- Master’s degree in a relevant health discipline from an accredited education institution required.
Certification/Licensure/Registration
- Active member in good standing of an associated regulatory body as appropriate.
Qualifications and Skills
- Training and demonstrated skill in several of the following areas: clinical assessment, individual therapy, family therapy, group therapy, play therapy and systems intervention.
- Core knowledge of child and adolescent development and mental health issues in childhood and adolescence.
- An appreciation and understanding of the impact that colonization has had on First Nations communities in Manitoba.
- Skilled in building collaborative working partnerships with a variety of service providers and Jordan's Principle service coordinators/case managers, clients and families.
- Knowledge and experience working within First Nations communities an asset.
