Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient-centered clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations.

 

Position Overview

Child and Youth Treatment Service (CYTS) embraces the goal of Jordan’s Principle to ensure that all children and youth have access to the health services they need in a timely manner. This Mental Health Clinician position will focus on providing virtual and in person mental health service to children, adolescents and their families in First Nations communities to support this initiative.

Duties may include receiving and responding to requests for service, consultation, triage and initial assessments of needs, and ongoing clinical interventions. Establishing and maintaining liaison with First Nation community resources, health services, other Jordan’s Principle partners and stakeholders is an important part of the role.  Working collaboratively with community partner to support competency, resource awareness and collaboration with other CYTS service areas are key parts of the role.

The Mental Health Clinician will work in collaboration with psychiatrists, primary care physicians, nursing station staff, community service providers, clients and their families.

This position is based in Winnipeg with some travel required to First Nations communities throughout Manitoba.

Experience

  • Experience working with a variety of First Nations communities; their culture and healing practices. 
  • 4-5 years’ experience preferred working with children, youth and families.
  • Experience and training in treatment models related to developmental trauma.
  • Experience in case management.
  • Experience and or training in any of the following: DBT, CBT, family treatment models are assets. 
  • Experience developing and delivering mental health education is considered an asset.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

  • Master’s degree in a relevant health discipline from an accredited education institution required.

Certification/Licensure/Registration

  • Active member in good standing of an associated regulatory body as appropriate.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Training and demonstrated skill in several of the following areas: clinical assessment, individual therapy, family therapy, group therapy, play therapy and systems intervention.
  • Core knowledge of child and adolescent development and mental health issues in childhood and adolescence. An appreciation and understanding of the impact that colonization has had on First Nations communities in Manitoba.
  • Skilled in building collaborative working partnerships with a variety of service providers, Jordan’s Principle service coordinators/case managers, clients and families.
