The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations.

 

Position Overview

The Mental Health Clinician will work in a correctional environment and is responsible for the provision of direct client service including the following: mental health evaluation, implementation of treatment plans, and the evaluation of clinical services to the youth and their families.

The Mental Health Clinician is responsible for the establishment of working relationships with mental health professionals and referral assistance to Manitoba Justice community and youth corrections staff regarding community mental health resources.

Experience

  • 3 to 5 years’ experience working with children, youth, and adolescents in a mental health setting.
  • Knowledge and experience with psychiatric disorders in youth.
  • Knowledge of psychopharmacological agents and their side-effects.
  • Experience in an intake process will be considered an asset.
  • Experience in developing and delivering education sessions will be considered an asset.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

  • Graduate from an approved program in Psychiatric Nursing or Nursing (BSc.P.N., B.Sc.M.H. or B.Sc.N., preferred), Medical Rehab (BMR, MOT), Counselling (M.A. Psych or M.Ed Psych), Master's of Marriage and Family Therapy or Social Work (MSW).  Preference will be given to candidates with a Psychiatric Nursing background and license.

 

An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.

Certification/Licensure/Registration

  • Staff not licensed/registered with a legislated professional body must be registered/certified with an appropriate Association.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Skills and training in clinical assessment, individual therapy, group therapy, and systems intervention.
  • Responsible for triage within the Youth Forensic Service (YFS).
  • Gathering of appropriate background information to support the completion of Forensic Assessments.
  • Responsible for the delivery of direct treatment services to youth.
  • Responsible for consultation to the Manitoba Justice community and the youth community corrections.
  • The establishment of working relationships with mental health professionals and referral assistance to Manitoba Justice community and youth corrections staff regarding community mental health resources.
  • Select candidate will be subject to security clearance requirements for Manitoba Justice.
