Job Summary:

Reporting to the Chief Medical Officer, the Medical Director, Second Building Project will serve as the clinical medical lead for CancerCare Manitoba’s second building development. Working closely with the CCMB Executive Team, Director of Infrastructure and Environment and Shared Health’s Department Led Capital Project team, the Medical Director ensures the medical leadership voice is integrated into all stages of planning, design, and execution of the new facility.

 

The Medical Director provides medical leadership to inform clinical service models, patient care pathways, and facility design with a focus on innovation, safety, and excellence in oncology care. Serving as a dyad partner with the Director of Patient Services, the Medical Director co-leads the development of care delivery strategies that reflect CancerCare Manitoba’s vision, mission, and strategic goals. The role is a key liaison between the physician community and project leaders, ensuring that physicians are engaged and that patient care standards are optimized for the future healthcare environment.

 

The Medical Director actively collaborates with medical departments, physician leadership, and multi-disciplinary stakeholders to lead planning and integration of medical services, clinical equipment, digital health solutions, and workforce planning. This includes clinical input on infrastructure, space planning, and care environments that support equitable, culturally safe, and high-quality cancer care for Manitobans.

This role is essential in guiding medical strategy and championing innovation for one of Manitoba’s major healthcare construction project.

 

Qualifications:

 

Education

  • Medical degree and certification from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or College of Family Physicians of Canada is required. Active licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba or Manitoba College of Family Physicians would be an asset.

 

Experience

  • Minimum of 10 years of clinical experience, preferably in oncology or a related field.
  • At least 5-7 years of demonstrated leadership experience in a healthcare or academic setting, including experience in leading medical teams or clinical service planning.
  • Previous experience participating in or advising healthcare infrastructure or capital planning projects is an asset.
  • Experience working in a multi-disciplinary environment, understanding of unionized work force and engagement in system-level strategy is an asset.

An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

 

Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated ability to lead and engage physicians and clinical teams in system-level projects.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of ambulatory care, in patient care, oncology service delivery, and contemporary models of interdisciplinary care.
  • Ability to understand and utilize administrative and decision support reports and research information related to clinical care and practices, including quality improvement practices.
  • Strong communication, facilitation, and collaboration skills to influence and build consensus across diverse medical and operational stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with evidence-based medical planning, quality improvement frameworks, and digital health integration.
  • Proven ability to balance clinical, operational, and financial priorities in complex decision- making environments.
  • Knowledge of health equity issues and social determinants of health and their impact on patient outcomes and experience.
  • Understanding of various reports, including Truth & Reconciliation Commission’s 94 Calls to Action (2015).
  • Model and support full team commitment to Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism.
  • Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada.
  • Knowledge of social, economic, political and historical realities impacting Indigenous communities and familiarity with Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism and accompanying reports.

Required Licenses, Registrations, Designations

  • Active licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba or Manitoba College of Family Physicians would be an asset.
  • Eligibility for appointment at CancerCare Manitoba.

 

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

  • Must be able to work safely in a typical computerized office environment with frequent meetings and to lift and carry items.
  • Interruptions to respond to questions from executives and partner organizations are common; dedicated and focused time for planning and concentration can be scheduled.
  • Must have a valid Manitoba driver’s license and use of a personal motor vehicle for regular travel within the province.
