Position Overview

Directly accountable to the Director, the Manager of Maintenance supervises, manages and oversees the various maintenance related trades in the performance of their duties. Supports the Director, Facility Management, with the planning and coordination of the operation, maintenance and repair of all aspects of the physical infrastructure. Manages all employees in the Facility Management trades area. Supervises subordinate trade such as (but not limited to): Electricians, Plumbers/Fitters, Power Engineers, Electronic Technicians, Carpenters, Industrial Mechanics, Painters, Maintenance and Trade Helpers, and Ground Keepers. Authority to perform all assigned duties and responsibilities, including the supervision of specified staff members, within established policies and procedures.

Performs all duties in accordance with established health and safety regulations/guidelines, policies and procedures (e.g. utilizing personal, protective equipment as per safe work procedures). Notifies their Manager (or their designates i.e. supervisors) of all occurrences, injuries illnesses or safety and health concerns which are likely to harm themselves, their co-workers, or any others who enter the premises.

Experience

  • A minimum of five (5) years' experience in the Power Engineering field at the current level.
  • Experience in supervising Power Engineers or supervisory experience in related areas.
  • Experience in the maintenance and use' of fire protection and fire fighting equipment.
  • Experience in planning, directing, controlling and supervising numbers of trades persons of various disciplines.
  • Experience in controlling and directing all aspects of a Preventative Maintenance Program.
  • Acceptable training and experience in the ongoing operation and maintenance of a large facility, preferably health care.
  • Experience in project management
  • Experience in working as part of a team in developing plans for short and long-term changes, additions and/or modifications to buildings and services.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

  • A valid Manitoba or Inter-provincial Power Engineer Certificate of the class required to assume responsibility as plant chief.
  • Successful completion of secondary school education according to Provincial standards with passing grades in Grade 12 Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Knowledge of the safe and proper methods of operating/maintaining and repairing structural, mechanical, plumbing and electrical systems in a large facility.
  • Knowledge of applicable legislation and administration of Collective Agreements.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and support of:
    • The vision, values, goals, and objectives of the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority and Deer Lodge Centre.
    • Deer Lodge Centre's Mission Statement, Residents Bill of Rights and Code of Conduct.
    • Personal Health Information Act, Protection of Persons in Care Act, Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS), Principles of Routine Practices (Universal Precautions) and other legislated acts.
    • Knowledge of provincial Codes including the Manitoba Building Code, Manitoba Fire Code, NFPA Codes, ASME Codes and related CSA Codes and other legislated acts.
  • Skills and abilities to oversee and control a computerized Preventative Maintenance Program.
  • Ability to evaluate necessary management information from Preventative Maintenance Program to ensure required maintenance routines and repairs has been carried out as, and when, required to established standards.
  • Ability to interpret applicable legislation and apply regulations and directives.
  • Ability to train and develop employees.
  • Ability to communicate well orally and in writing.
  • Ability to understand technical language, manuals and blueprints.
  • Demonstrated abilities to work within a team in establishing "best practices" within budgetary constraints.
  • Demonstrated computer software skills.

Physical Requirements

  • May be required to work extended hours.
  • May involve exposure to disease, radiation, toxic materials, noise, allergens, etc.
  • May encounter aggressive and/or agitated patients/residents/staff/visitors.

 

 

This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.
