Job Summary:

 

Under the leadership and direction of the Director of Research Administration and Operations the Manager of Clinical Trials Unit is a collaborative leader who provides overall management of the CTU to ensure that clinical trials are well supported and successfully delivered at CancerCare Manitoba (CCMB). 

 

This position works to ensure clinical trials are delivered in accordance with trial protocols and have the required documentation and approvals, and ongoing monitoring and reporting requirements are completed. The Manager is an integral part of the Research Support Officer (RSO) participating in the review and assessment of clinical trial proposals and contributing to high value trials meeting enrollment and accrual targets. The role also works collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, including educational and health services organizations across Manitoba and represents CCMB nationally as requested.

 

The Manager contributes to a variety of functions including: operations planning, agreements and contracts, and trials management, monitoring and reporting. The Manager supports the CRAO in promoting and developing opportunities for clinical trials and sponsorships.

 

Qualifications:

 

Education

  • Post secondary clinical, business, public administration, health management, or sciences degree or another field relevant to the position from an accredited educational institution.

 

Experience

  • 7 years working in a health services environment with a strong connection to clinical and clinical support services.
  • 5 years of management experience including managing staff within a unionized environment
  • 3 years of experience in operational planning, data-driven program evaluation, organizational management, policy and program development.
  • 3 years of experience supporting clinical trial protocols to ensure program functions are effectively delivered.

An appropriate equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered.

 

Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated strong emotional intelligence, self-awareness, self-management and social awareness.
  • Ability to proactively build and maintain partnerships and to work with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Must have strong facilitation skills, excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize, analyze, problem-solve and apply knowledge and decision-making skills.
  • Experience in leading project planning and change management.
  • Demonstrated competency and experience in managing staff and developing talent to ensure efficiency of the team.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to self-development and lifelong learning.
  • Must be self-directed and work independently.

 

Preferred

  • RN, MBA, MPA, LLM or other relevant, graduate level education.
  • Knowledge of the corporate operations in a public-funded healthcare organization.
  • Ability to speak French.

 

Required Licenses, Registrations, Designations

  • Active member in good standing of an associated regulatory body as appropriate

 

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to work safely in a typical computerized office environment with frequent meetings at multiple sites throughout the organization, and to lift and carry items of up to approximately 25 pounds.
  • Interruptions to respond to questions are common; dedicated and focused time for planning and concentration can be scheduled
