The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) MDS/Co Lead is responsible for providing Minimum Data Set (MDS) and Care Organizer (CO) education to all Actionmarguerite staff as well as audit processes for quality improvement. The Licensed Practical Nurse provides professional practical nursing services to designated patients including independent nursing services, administration of prescribed medical treatments, collaboration and interaction within the health care team and participation in the coordination of patient care and discharge, demonstrates a commitment to the vision, mission and values of Actionmarguerite and other related functions.

Shift and Hours of Work: 0.8 FTE - full-time - term - days/evenings, currently 07:15 - 15:30 / 15:15 - 23:30
Pay Scale: As per MNU Collective Agreement
Specifications: Term ending March 11, 2024. Assignment and hours of work are subject to change at any time as per operational requirements.

Required Qualifications

Education: 

  • Graduate of an approved Licensed Practical Nursing education program; and
  • Active registration with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Manitoba.

Experience:

  • Experience with chronic illness and geriatric nursing; and
  • Minimum Data Set and Care Organizer (MDS/CO) experience required.

Abilities and Skills:

  • Demonstrated ability to create positive working environment when staff require new information, skills and techniques;
  • Demonstrated excellence in written and oral communication skills, including public speaking, with the ability to interact with a diverse employee population;
  • Must be fluent in all aspects of MDS/CO;
  • Must be able to work in a computerized work setting with a good working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook;
  • Demonstrates critical thinking/problem solving skills and decision making skills;
  • Ability to prioritize care for an individual resident or a group of residents;
  • Ability to delegate care appropriately and monitor outcomes of delegated care;
  • Ability to respond to a variety of simultaneous demands;
  • Ability to perform independently and as a member of the health care team;
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing situations;
  • Ability to function in a demanding and stressful environment;
  • Ability to demonstrate a satisfactory employment record, including attendance; and
  • Current Criminal Record Check for the Vulnerable sector and Adult Abuse Registry Check deemed satisfactory by the Employer.

Knowledge:

  • College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Manitoba Standards of Practice for Licensed Practical Nurses;
  • College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Manitoba Code of Ethics for Licensed Practical Nurses;
  • Scope of practice as documented in the Licensed Practical Nurses Act;
  • Nursing care knowledge related to the clinical area;
  • Roles and responsibilities of members of the health care team;
  • Principles of delegation;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of adult teaching and learning principles;
  • Personal Health Information Act (PHIA), Protection of Persons in Care Act, Mental Health Act, Principles of Routine Practices (Universal Precautions) and other legislated acts;
  • Actionmarguerite's Vision, Mission and Values, Resident Bill of Rights, Actionmarguerite’s policies and procedures;
  • Workplace Health and Safety and safe work practices; and
  • W.H.M.I.S. program.
All staff are hired for the facility. Employees may hold more than one position in different Actionmarguerite facilities, where the sum total of hours does not exceed 1.0 full-time equivalence.
