Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient-centered clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations.
Position Overview
Under the direction of the ISO Supervisor, the incumbent is responsible for assisting in the supervision, guidance, and direction of security staff to ensure the safety and security of hospital buildings, grounds, employees, patients, and visitors. Performs regular functions of the security staff as required.
Experience
- Minimum 1-year experience as an Institutional Safety Officer (ISO).
- Must have or be able to acquire within a reasonable period of time a thorough knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions and regulations applicable to the area of supervision.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
- Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent.
- Successful completion of a recognized supervisory or personnel management course required.
SPECIAL TRAINING:
- Successful completion of Qualified Persons training and demonstrate competency in order to be designated as per the Mental Health Act. Must also be able to demonstrate ongoing competency and capacity in order to maintain that designation as per the program requirements.
- Successful completion of the ISO Training Program.
- Demonstrated completion of annual training required.
Certification/Licensure/Registration
- Must possess a valid Manitoba Security Guard License and/or any future license mandated by Manitoba Justice to perform the duties of a Security Guard.
- Must possess valid ISO certification/designation.
- Must maintain ISO designation.
Qualifications and Skills
- Must have the ability to communicate effectively (oral and written).
- Must be able to work at extreme heights to support Heliport operations.
- Must be able to perform activities that include helipad pre-landing inspections, activation of emergency systems and assisting patient off-loads.
- Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English.
- Demonstrated ability to use a two-way radio is required.
- Ability to interact well with others.
- Ability to retain information which is of a confidential nature.
- Must possess tact and diplomacy.
- Demonstrated ability to use discretion and good judgement.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrated ability to adapt readily to stressful situations.
- Mature, professional manner.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
- Good interpersonal communication skills.
Physical Requirements
- Position requires a considerable amount of walking, running and the physical ability to restrain or evict unauthorized individuals.
