Anticipated Start Date:                     April 1, 2026

Union:                                                  Exempt

Anticipated Shift:                               Primarily days; evenings and weekends as needed

 

Position Summary:

NorWest Co-op Community Health is seeking a Lawyer to support our Family Violence and Prevention Programs. This role focuses on providing legal advice and consultations to individuals affected by family violence. The successful candidate will represent clients who are ineligible for Legal Aid Manitoba and will not take on clients under a Legal Aid certificate.

 

Education & Licensing

  • Bachelor of Law (LL.B.) degree, Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree or other equivalent degree
  • Active member in good standing with the Law Society of Manitoba


Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Family Law or Child Protection Law, specifically representing survivors of family violence.
  • Proven experience in litigation, providing legal advice, and court representation.
  • Strong commitment to a trauma-informed, client-centered approach.
  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in electronic case management systems and timely recording of case details.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team.
  • Knowledge of Legal Aid Manitoba billing processes is considered an asset.
  • Ability to exercise full professional independence in legal decision-making while engaging in appropriate collaboration with program staff.

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record, Child Abuse Registry and Adult Abuse Registry checks
  • Strict adherence to client confidentiality and PHIA requirements.

 

Professional Liability Insurance
This is a self-insured profession. The successful candidate must maintain their own professional liability insurance and pay all annual premiums and costs at their own expense.
